Premium and not so premium shopping experiences

Stockmann’s is one of the few world class department stores in Helsinki and in Finland in general.

Even their satellite department stores in Itäkeskus and Tapiola are well stocked and always put an good effort in service.

But what makes shopping experience a premium?

Well at least for me finding something unexpected, interesting and new is always an important factor.

Today I found Monty Python’s Holy Grail beer. Totally unexpected. But then again, nobody expects the spanish inquisition.

Unexpectedness however is not always a sign of premium shopping experience.

Compare above to this:

Local bulk super-store, where you see whole lot of unexpected things. For example this collection of totally unrelated products piled together: biking helmets, cleaning products ( of various different kinds ), coffee and party snacks!
